Lyrics

I Am Somebody
© Susan Anders

She was sniffling at the airport
Clutching her bag like it was her only friend
I didn’t want to be too pushy
Just handed her some tissue
And she launched right in
She wiped her eyes and said “ I just can’t seem to stop these tears, I guess--

Somebody’s got to cry all night
Somebody’s got to ache all day
Somebody’s got to face the truth
Wake up and finally see
Somebody’s got to do what’s right
Somebody’s got to walk away
Somebody’s got to do it
And I am somebody”

Her daddy was a plumber
Her mama kept the books
And that was fine for them
They thought she’d settle in that small town
They couldn’t see that she had bigger plans
Everyday she saw the door and one day she walked through it
She said:

Somebody’s got to take a chance
Fly into the great unknown
Somebody’s got to make a move
Follow her dreams
Somebody’s got to take a stand
Outside the safety zone
Somebody’s got to do it
And I am somebody

She was so naive and hopeful and her heart was on the line
But wasn’t she just saying outloud what we all think sometimes?

Somebody’s got to take a chance
Fly into the great unknown
Somebody’s got to make a move
Follow her dreams
Somebody’s got to take a stand
Outside the safety zone
Somebody’s got to do it
And I am somebody
I am somebody
